These are some of the beliefs that impact my worldview and way of life. I've settled on these ideas over a the last few years and I hope I continue updating. All em dashes are mine :) – I did not get any assistance with writing this.

I want my beliefs and opinions to be true.

This is my definition of truth and why I value it: There exists 'reality', which is the way things truly are, and there separately exists my 'worldview' or 'belief system' which is the collection of my beliefs about the world. I want my belief system to reflect as closely as possible the way reality truly is, because the closer my worldview is to reality the more accurate my predictions about reality will be, and the better my predictions are the higher the chance that actions and decisions I make will have the consequences I intend rather than acting unexpectedly according to rules that I don't comprehend.
There are exceptions to this in situations where I am concerned that knowledge of the truth itself will somehow lead to harm. I take the idea of info-hazards seriously, though I think that these are extremely uncommon in everyday life.
There are cases where I also value Truth as a terminal value but these are less clear and harder to write about. Additionally, I highly value honesty as a separate value to truth.

It is important to have accurate beliefs (see Truth). I believe that an important factor that controls whether a person manages to have true beliefs is a certain skillset which can be broadly referred to as rationality, which exists separately to raw intelligence or brainpower. This involves skills such as open mindedness, awareness of biases to look out for, practice in scanning for bias automatically during thought and learning what feelings are often associated with specific ones, and more.

I believe this is a skill that can be — must be — learned and practiced, and I have attempted to do so — the positive results seem obvious to me. A lot of this overlaps with the skills of critical thinking, but I believe that there are distinct areas within these that deserve different titles.

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is Death

Death and suffering are the two worst things in the universe.
I hope that humanity lives long enough that we manage to destroy death, for all beings that don't want to die. I know that this will be absurdly complicated but the nature of technology and progress is that it goes up — I do not believe that there is a known hard constraint on a solution to death being possible. I do not know if I will ever want to die but 100 years is certainly not nearly enough, if it were not for the ageing process which sucks all of the meaning and joy out of life as the accomplice and as a part of death.

The natural human body is riddled with problems (death, disease, cancer, ageing, etc) and limitations (limited strength, intelligence, etc). If we could genetically modify ourselves to make our bodies better this would be an extremely good thing, but the technology hasn't been invented yet.
One technology that does exist, however, is using methods like embryo selection to arrange for babies to be born with stronger genes in the first place. I think that this technology is great and is a big step in the right direction for the future of the world. Part of the reason the field has such high levels of mistrust and dislike is because of historic cases of evil people advocating for and implementing murderous forms of eugenics, but I don't think it's fair to taboo such a wide-reaching and important field because of this (like we have also done for nuclear power and Chernobyl).

In the previous section I spoke about the upsetting condition of the human body's weaknesses and limitations. One direction for dealing with this is to augment the human body with cyborg (technological) body parts that are stronger than what the default body has to offer. The light form of this process is to add non-invasive improvements to the body such as hearing aids, glasses, and smartphones — this is where we are up to now. The natural next stage, which we have begun to touch upon, is to add or replace parts directly into our bodies, for example brain implants, pacemakers, or mechanical eyes. Finally, the long term solution may require leaving the human body or even brain entirely to move on to an improved host such as a robotic body or a digital form.
I don't know whether this is theoretically possible but I do not strongly believe in any premise that says it can't be, or that says that a digitally simulated mind will be unable to be conscious.

The underlying belief here is that people have the right to do whatever they want with their own bodies; our natural forms are very special and wonderous but not sacred or sacrosanct.

Technological progress is almost always good. Inventing significant technology can often have negative effects while the world adjusts, such as loss of jobs or societal impact, but these are usually only short term and are made up for by the long term benefits. Think of the printing press, the loom, cars, calculators, clean energy — all of these were opposed at the time but have made the world a massively better place. Progress is a ladder where each new technology or discovery allows us to reach places that we couldn't have reached before, places which make the world richer, give us new medicine, and allow us to reach continually further.

On a deeper level, I believe that the current situation of the world is unacceptable. There is too much pain, death, poverty, and hardship. The way that we can improve the situation is by progressing – each new technology allows us to stand on its shoulders and invent and discover more, that we did not have access to before.
Of course technology itself is not enough to better the world's situation (for us or for animals), as we also need the people to use it for the right purposes – power is a double edged sword. I have faith that the world when seen zoomed out has always and will continue to trend upwards and become more moral over time, even if when zoomed in to current events it can sometimes seem like we are regressing.
Goodness without power cannot change the world.

It is an existential threat to have smarter than human intelligence loose in the universe and I think it is extremely reckless and short sighted to deliberately develop such systems before we have a thorough understanding of how they will act and how they work.
I believe that the current form of AI development will likely lead to this form of superintelligence, possibly within the decade or even over next few years, and I think it possible that this will end up causing the extinction of the entire human species.
